Liwliwa is small, but the kind of stay you choose can completely change your experience.
Some places are right on the beachfront, close to bars, music and the energy of the weekend. Others are made for campers, surfers, solo travellers or groups of friends. And some are quieter, more private and closer to nature.
There is no single “best” place to stay in Liwliwa. The right choice depends on what you want from your trip: a social weekend, a budget-friendly bed, a family escape, easy beach access, a place to work remotely or a slower stay away from the noise.
We live here and run Riverback Sanctuary, so this guide is our honest overview of the different styles of accommodation in Liwliwa. We have included Riverback too, but we are not the right fit for everyone.
First, choose the kind of Liwliwa trip you want
Before booking, ask yourself a few simple questions:
- Do I want to be directly on or very close to the beach?
- Am I coming to meet people, surf and go out at night?
- Do I need the lowest possible budget?
- Am I travelling alone, with a partner, family or a group of friends?
- Do I want hotel-style convenience, or a more rustic experience?
- Is reliable WiFi important?
- Do I want quiet evenings and more privacy?
Most places in Liwliwa are relatively close to the beach, cafés and restaurants. But the atmosphere can be very different from one area to another.
For groups of friends, camping and a creative budget stay: Uwak Gallery
Uwak Gallery can be a good option for groups of friends, travellers on a budget and people who like a more creative, relaxed camping atmosphere.
It is known as a tattoo studio and homestay, with a simple, social feeling. It can suit guests who want to be close to the Liwliwa community, meet people and enjoy a less formal stay.
Choose Uwak Gallery if you are looking for:
- a budget-friendly trip with friends;
- a campsite or simple homestay atmosphere;
- an artistic and social environment;
- a stay that feels local rather than hotel-like.
For solo travellers and budget stays: Bom Dia Hostel
Bom Dia Hostel is worth considering for solo travellers, backpackers and guests looking for a simple place to stay without spending too much.
It is a practical choice if your priority is to be near the beach community, cafés and everyday Liwliwa life. It can be especially suitable for travellers who spend most of their time surfing, exploring or meeting people outside their room.
Choose Bom Dia if you are looking for:
- a solo-friendly atmosphere;
- a more affordable stay;
- a simple base near the action;
- a social hostel-style experience.
If you need to work online every day, always check the current WiFi setup directly before booking. Internet needs can be very personal, especially for video calls and long workdays.
For a comfortable and family-friendly Liwliwa stay: Kapitan’s Liwa
Kapitan’s Liwa can be a good option for travellers looking for a more comfortable and easy-going stay, especially couples, families or small groups.
It is worth considering if you want to enjoy Liwliwa while keeping a little more comfort and convenience in your accommodation.
Choose Kapitan’s Liwa if you are looking for:
- a more comfortable holiday setup;
- a stay that can suit families;
- easy access to the Liwliwa beach community;
- a balance between a relaxed beach trip and practical comfort.
For beachfront energy, food and a more social resort feeling: Kwentong Dagat and Camp Rofelio
If you want to be close to the beach, restaurants, people and the livelier side of Liwliwa, beachfront stays may be the best fit.
Kwentong Dagat is known for its beach-resort atmosphere, vegan food and community-oriented feel. Camp Rofelio is another option to consider for guests who want to stay close to the beachfront scene.
These kinds of stays are often a better choice for travellers who want to be able to walk easily to food, surf, sunset drinks and the social side of Liwliwa.
Choose a beachfront stay if you are looking for:
- quick beach access;
- more people and activity around you;
- a social weekend with friends;
- food and places to hang out nearby;
- a more classic beach-resort feeling.
They may be less suitable if your main goal is deep quiet, privacy or early nights.
For a rustic Liwliwa experience: Hideout
Hideout is a good option for solo travellers, couples and people who enjoy a rustic, relaxed stay surrounded by the coastal atmosphere of Liwliwa.
It can suit travellers who do not need polished hotel-style service and who prefer a simpler experience with character.
Choose Hideout if you are looking for:
- a rustic and laid-back stay;
- a quieter coastal corner;
- a place for a solo trip or simple couple escape;
- an experience that feels more like Liwliwa than a conventional hotel.
For camping: Riverside Liwa
Riverside Liwa is a good area to consider if camping is the main reason for your trip.
Camping can be one of the best ways to experience Liwliwa: outdoor evenings, simple shared spaces, a closer connection to the community and an easy-going beach-town rhythm.
Choose Riverside Liwa if you are looking for:
- a campsite experience;
- a low-key and outdoors-focused trip;
- a place to spend time with friends;
- a more flexible and simple way to stay in Liwliwa.
As with any campsite, check directly what is included before booking: tents, bedding, bathroom facilities, electricity, parking and current house rules.
For a more comfortable beachfront stay: Luna & Sol Resorts
Luna & Sol Resorts is a good option for couples, families and small groups who want a more comfortable beachfront stay in Liwliwa.
The resort offers different room types, including family bungalows, and can also work well for a group that wants to book several rooms or arrange a full-resort stay together. It is a good choice if you want to be close to the sea while enjoying more conventional hospitality, a beach lounge and an on-site food and drink option.
Choose Luna & Sol if you are looking for:
- a comfortable beachfront stay;
- a couple or family beach escape;
- a bungalow with more hotel-style comfort;
- an option for a small group or resort buyout;
- easy access to the beach, food and Liwliwa’s coastal atmosphere.
It may be a better fit than Riverback for guests who want to wake up by the sea, have more services on site and keep everything close at hand.
Where Riverback Sanctuary fits in
Riverback Sanctuary is for travellers who want something quieter and more private.
We are a small eco-homestay with three cabins on a river island in Riverside Liwa. The island is reached by handmade bamboo bridges and surrounded by trees, birds and river life. The surf beach, cafés and restaurants are still only a 5 to 10 minute walk away: close enough to enjoy Liwliwa, but far enough to come back to calm.
Riverback may be the right choice for you if you are looking for:
- privacy and space between cabins;
- quiet evenings, without parties or karaoke;
- a stay surrounded by trees, river and nature;
- a more personal, host-led experience;
- a cabin rather than a dorm or busy campsite;
- WiFi, solar backup and a comfortable place to work remotely;
- a couple escape, a small family stay or a slower solo trip;
- a place that is close to the beach and restaurants, but not in the middle of the noise.
When Riverback may not be the best fit
We want guests to choose the place that genuinely suits their trip.
Riverback may not be the best choice if you are looking for:
- a party resort or nightlife at your doorstep;
- a beachfront room with direct sea views;
- a bar, restaurant or reception open around the clock;
- hotel-style service and instant late-night check-in;
- a place where you can avoid walking;
- a large resort with many facilities;
- a stay with everything immediately outside your room.
Our island involves a short walk and crossing three bamboo bridges. It is part of what makes the place special, but it is not the right setup for every traveller.
Our honest recommendation
If you want the most social and beachfront side of Liwliwa, choose a beachfront resort, a hostel or a campsite.
If you are travelling on a tight budget, a hostel, camp or simple homestay may be the better choice.
If you want a comfortable family setup, look for one of Liwliwa’s larger accommodation options.
But if you are looking for a quiet cabin, a little more privacy and a slower connection with nature, while still being close to the beach, cafés and restaurants, Riverback Sanctuary may be the place for you.
Check our cabin availability, or message us directly if you would like help choosing the right cabin for your stay.
Before you book
