Best time to visit Liwliwa

By Bibe & Sam, your hosts in Liwliwa · Updated November 2026

Liwliwa is worth visiting throughout the year, but the experience changes with the weather, the surf and the number of visitors around.

Some guests come for sunny beach days and beginner-friendly waves. Others prefer quieter weekdays, dramatic skies, greener landscapes or a slower stay away from the busiest holiday periods.

Here is a simple local guide to help you choose the best time for your trip.

November to April: the easiest months for most visitors

For most travellers, November to April is the easiest time to visit Liwliwa. These months are generally drier, with more sunny days for the beach, river, cafés and nearby trips around Zambales.

December to March is also usually the best surf season in Liwliwa. Waves are often cleaner and more consistent, making this a popular time for beginners taking their first lesson as well as more experienced surfers.

If you are visiting for a relaxed beach weekend, this is usually the safest period to choose.

April and May: hot, bright and good for slow days

April and May are often the hottest months of the year. Expect strong sunshine and warm afternoons.

This can be a great time for early beach walks, swimming, sunset drinks and slow mornings under the trees. Acacia and Agoho have air-conditioning, while the river, shade and evening breeze make island life more comfortable once the heat settles.

If you are sensitive to heat, plan outdoor activities early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

June to September: rain, bigger surf and quieter stays

From June to September, Liwliwa enters the wetter part of the year. Rain can be heavier, and tropical weather can change quickly.

For surfers, this period can bring larger and more powerful waves. It is generally better suited to confident surfers, especially during stronger swells. There are still calmer days, but it is important to check the conditions and ask locally before going into the water.

For travellers who do not mind a little rain, this season can also feel quieter, greener and more peaceful. It is a good time to read, work remotely, spend time in the cabin, explore when the weather opens up and enjoy a slower rhythm.

May and October: the in-between months

May and October are transition months. Weather can be mixed: some sunny days, some rain and changing surf conditions.

They can be a lovely option if you want fewer crowds than peak season while still having the possibility of good beach weather.

When Liwliwa is busiest

Holy Week, Christmas and New Year are usually the busiest times in Liwliwa. The beach, restaurants and roads can be much more active, and cabins tend to book early.

If you prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting on weekdays or outside public holiday periods. Sunday to Thursday is often calmer, and direct bookings can also be more affordable outside peak dates.

There is no single perfect time to visit Liwliwa. It depends on what you are looking for: surf, sunshine, quiet, remote work, a romantic escape or simply time outdoors.
